Thanks to all our panelists for a great discussion at the Harvard Club in Boston – perhaps the oil portrait of George Washington looming above put a bit of pressure on us, but our panel delivered as always! Our last panel of 2010 touched on topics such as the value and ownership of data, what challenges publishers are facing, and the usual privacy/consumer discussion that we just can’t seem to get enough of these days

Fixing Advertising brings its 9th panel to Boston to discuss how far we’ve come in 2010, what work still needs to be done (hint: it’s not fixed yet!) and what we see for 2011. One large issue to address is how we can leverage these new data-driven display technologies to actually scale. Going beyond retargeting, driving new customers into the funnel, and bringing more measurable performance to brand campaigns all carry the potential to drive far more volume into this ecosystem. Let’s figure this out!

In a bit of a departure from previous panels, we took the opportunity of SES being in town to deep dive into how SEM experts (such as our panelists) are leveraging their data-driven skill set to make display a profitable channel in an event called “Fixing Advertising: The Quants Strike Back”. Over 150 eager (and thirsty!) SEMs turned out for the discussion, and our panelists taught us quite a lot. I’ll leave the takeaways to them in the audio version on the podcast.

The Quants Strike Back: How SEMs are Leveraging their Expertise to Transform Display into Profitability

In a bit of a departure from our normal panel format, we’ll be asking experts from the SEM community who have “crossed over” into display to discuss how they apply their ninja quant-like skills to make display advertising profitable. Since SES San Francisco is earlier that day, we invite all SEM enthusiasts (we won’t call you geeks…yet) to join in the conversation.
